[ARCHIVED] National Parks and Recreation Month

Logo of National Parks & Recreation Month - Build Together, Play Together

What is Park and Recreation Month?

Since 1985, people in the United States have celebrated Park and Recreation Month in July to promote building strong, vibrant and resilient communities through the power of parks and recreation and to recognize the more than 160,000 full-time park and recreation professionals — along with hundreds of thousands of part-time and seasonal workers and volunteers — that maintain our country’s local, state and community parks. This year marks the 40th anniversary of Park and Recreation Month!

Park and recreation professionals provide vital services for our communities, from protecting open spaces and natural resources to helping fight obesity and providing activities and resources for all people. Park and Recreation Month encourages everyone to reflect on the exponential value park and recreation professionals bring to communities.

Build Together, Play Together

This Park and Recreation Month, we are celebrating the vital role park and recreation professionals play in fostering a sense of belonging in their communities by providing welcoming and inclusive programs, essential services for all ages and abilities, and safe, accessible spaces to build meaningful connection. Park and recreation professionals make a positive impact on their community members every single day. Let’s come together this year and show the many reasons why your local parks and recreation truly embodies the essence of belonging.
